CONFIDENTIALITY & THE VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Each participant will have an opportunity to contribute toward the cost of a meal. The contribution is voluntary and strictly confidential. No one shall be denied a meal if unable or unwilling to make a contribution. These concepts are mandated by Federal law.

Dining Center Operators will ensure that each participant feels free to make a contribution or not.

Operators must take measures to keep the source and amount of each contribution confidential.

They must further ensure that Dining Center personnel including drivers are cautioned against making personal judgements about a participants decision to make a contribution or not, or about the amount of the contribution. Judgmental discussions about a participants giving habits are strictly forbidden. Operators shall not set amounts for any “suggested donations” and shall refer to and make available the handout “Meal Contributions” when discussing donations.

The Dining Center will provide an envelope into which a participant may place a confidential contribution. These are provided and collected weekly to participants receiving home delivered meals, and daily to those who attend the Dining Center. Dining Center participants are to place their contributions in a locked box at the Center. The locked box will be provided by Highland Valley. Voluntary donations may also be mailed directly to Highland Valley by a participant.
