EMERGENCY MEALS
In Fall of each year, Highland Valley personnel will initiate the distribution of information sheet Winter Storm Cancellation Sheet to all home delivered meals participants. Simultaneous with this, Care Advisors will identify elders who receive frozen and/or evening meals. The kitchen will the arrange for advance emergency meals to be delivered to those elders. The advance emergency meal is to be consumed when meals delivery is cancelled and no other food is available to the elder. The distribution of advance emergency meals will be accomplished by November 1 annually. After each “no service” day, the emergency meal will be replaced.

Dining Center personnel should telephone affected home delivered meal participants. Determine that each person has food and fuel. A participant who lacks these should be reported to Highland Valley at once. It is our joint responsibility to work in a team fashion to assure that each participant has food and fuel during a weather emergency.
CANCELLATION DECISIONS
The decision to cancel the nutrition program is made based on road conditions at approximately 6:00 AM when kitchen staff are driving to work, and upon road conditions projected for between 10:00 AM and noon, the hours when meal delivery and elders traveling to dining centers occurs.
The decision to cancel is made by the Nutrition Program Director in conjunction with the Associate Director.
CALLING TREE
In the event of questionable weather conditions, a calling tree will be activated by the Nutrition Program Director.
