Orientation should include a written summary of job duties and responsibilities, instruction in the details of the job including emergency procedures, information about the role of the Dining Center and that of Highland Valley Elder Services.
TRAINING
Highland Valley will provide or arrange for periodic training for Dining Center personnel. Certain training such as Emergency Anti-Choking Procedures are required by the State Sanitary Code. Dining Center personnel will take full advantage of training opportunities.
CORI
Recent Massachusetts law requires that certain workers or volunteers who go into the homes of elders be “CORI checked” (receive a criminal background check) before assignment or hire. This law applies to each individual who provides services to an elder including care, treatment, education, training, transportation, delivery of meals, instruction, counseling, supervision, recreation or other similar services which result in the employee, referral or volunteer having direct or indirect contact with the participant or access in their home or in a community-based setting. This also includes any individual who has access to participant files.
It is the responsibility of The Dining Center Operator to be in full compliance with all applicable sections of this law. CORI requirements are stated in Section 172B Chapter 6 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
