What is Highland Valley Elder Services?
The mission of Highland Valley Elder Services (HVES), Inc. is to assist People Taking Charge of Their Lives and Communities for Quality Long Living.
HVES is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes Quality Long Living for elders in twenty-four communities in Hampshire and Hampden Counties of western Massachusetts.
The agency receives funds from two main sources: the Administration on Aging (AoA), (federal funds) through its designation as an Area Agency on Aging (AAA), and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA), (state funds) through its designation as a Home Care Corporation/Aging Services Access Point (ASAP).
“Our best services are those that empower elders to discover their own strengths, their own talents, their own solutions.”

What is CitizensMatch?
In its most basic form, a Caring Community is built around people who wish to be resources for others and those who may have situations affecting their ability to participate in life as fully as they wish. It is the link that unites our needs and offers of help.
Our CitizensMatch Program offers two online places where acts of caring are valued. People and businesses band together as they strike up relationships that make a difference in their lives, communities and even their bottom line.
The first, our Caring Community Mapping database, offers a place where anyone from the communities can either post a need or list an offer using the technology of the internet and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. You can look here to post a need or to locate someone with a need in your community. You can also go here to post the services you have to offer or to see what others are offering. Searches and matches can be conducted from your home or anywhere you have access to a computer and the internet. You will need to register before you can post to the mapping system. Click here to access the Caring Community Mapping System.
The second, our CitizensMatch Trading database, offers an online place, which connects citizens and businesses in acts of caring. It is all about grass roots bootstrap support for people caring for each other, as well as small scale economic development for local businesses.
Businesses trade with each other in Citizen Dollars, which are valued at par with the U.S. Dollar and traded exclusively to grow the CitizensMatch community.
Individuals can trade their goods and services with each other and member businesses as well.
Proceeds from the fees these trades generate are distributed by Highland Valley Elder Services to elders, caregivers and people doing acts of community service who spend them with participating businesses.
